Finding a Childcare Provider

How can you chose the right childcare provider for your child? Before making a decision, start by identifying your needs and the needs of your child. What are your preferences? For example, do you want family-type setting or a group environment? Your educational values may also influence your choices. It is also important to meet with the staff at the childcare provider you are considering or the recognized or unrecognized person offering the services you are seeking, and to visit the premises. This will give you the chance to ask questions and make sure the service provider is suitable for you and respects your values.

The standards that apply differ based on the type of childcare environment, more specifically in terms of the obligations to ensure the health and safety of children.

There are many tools you can use to help you in your search. The Ministère has developed a guide to help you search for recognized childcare providers.

Since September 1, 2018, your registration with the Single Window Access to Childcare Services provides you with information on service offers and spaces available at all recognized childcare providers. The single window access is the only gateway for parents to register their child with a recognized childcare provider (childcare centre, day care centre, recognized home childcare providers).
